Comets came out strong at the start of the match in Auckland and WBOP took time to settle with them chasing the score to finish 10-13 after the 1st Quarter. Sustaining the intensity has been a challenge so with staying close to the Comets team we had to continue to build. Grace McLean had to leave the court after a collision and Summer Parekura took the court at GA and the score difference remained the same 21-24 with a drawn 2nd 11-11.
WBOP lifted in the 2nd half after a rousing half time talk. There was some great defence in the mid court and good ball into the circle finished by the attack which saw WBOP even the score at 33 all at the end of the 3rd quarter.
A change in the shooting end for Comets saw Eseta Autugavaia moving to GS and some nervous passing at the start of the quarter from WBOP saw Comets secure easy ball and finish well. Despite a late rally the five goal deficit could not be recovered and the score ended 43-48.
Standout performance from Captain Ngawai Hawera 40 feeds, 21 goal assists and 30 Centre pass receives.
Martina Reekers had a strong game 32/36 for 89%.
We will take the one point for being with in 5 and prepare for our final match v Southern Blast in 2 weeks.
